BLUEGRASS SEED

"Blue Night" Kentucky Bluegrass
Blue Knight Kentucky Bluegrass is more than capable and this elite variety is ready to show its true colors. Blue Knight color is as dark green as nature will allow and this bluegrass forms a very dense and durable sod. This noble offering resists disease and yet won't take over your mixes species lawn. But don't let these strong capabilities hide the fact that Blue Knight has very fine leaves for appearance and grows lower and slower than most bluegrasses. Plant this outstanding bluegrass and enjoy the benefits of the this "elite" variety for many years.
Seeding rate 2 to 3 lbs/1000 sq.ft.

"Shamrock" Kentucky Bluegrass
A cool-season, moderate to fine-textured shallow-rooted perennial grass which spreads by rhizomes. It produces a dense sod under favorable conditions. Widely adapted, grown in all states, but seldom found in the gulf states. It has a high cool tolerance; grows on heavy soils of moderate fertility, best adapted to soils of limestone origin. Will not persist in acidic soils. Not drought resistant, but survives long dry periods while dormant. A hardy grass with good to excellent wearability, it is generally considered the standard by which other lawn grasses are measured.
Seeding rate 3 to 5 lbs/1000 sq.ft.

"Sabre"Rough Bluegrass
Very similar to and adapted to the same conditions as Kentucky Bluegrass, but is more tolerant of shade and wet soils. It has a shallow root system. Excellent in seed mixtures for lawns in shady areas where soil moisture is adequate. Does not tolerate drought. Poor wearability when seeded alone.
Seeding rate 3 to 5 lbs/1000 sq.ft.

"True-Putt"Creeping Bluegrass (Poa Reptans)
This new perennial grass is medium green depending on fertility and forms a uniform, dense turf at greens height. It is medium to fine textured and does not flower during the first year of establishment unless it is vernalized. Germinates rapidly in 5 to 7 days under optimum conditions especially when kept continually moist. It is very vigorous and mixes well with creeping bent grass in a 50%/50% mixture. Is drought and shade tolerant and recovers well after water stress events. Tolerates close mowing to 1/8" ( optimum mowing height on greens is 5/32), but will also perform well at 1/2 inch mowing height. Creeping bluegrass is a deep rooted grass which has exhibited some field resistance to pink snowmold. It is well adapted to the cool moist climate, especially the Pacific NW. On sand greens it perform very well with regular foliar applications of STEM (soluable trace elements) at 1 oz/week/1,000 sq. ft in combination with either 0.1 or 0.2 lbs N in a 20-10=20 foliar spray. On sandy soils it responds more favorably to foliar (liquid) fertilizer applications compared to granular sources. Respnds to "Embark" at 0.2 fl. oz. per 1000 sq. ft. for significant control of flowering in the spring.
Seeding rate 2 to 3 lbs/1000 sq.ft.

Kentucky bluegrass is native to practically all of Europe, northern Asia and the mountains of Algeria and Morocco. Although the species is spread over all of the cool, humid parts of the U.S., it is not native to North America. Apparently the early colonists brought seed of Kentucky bluegrass to this country in mixtures with other grasses.

In the southern U.S., Kentucky bluegrass is limited to the transition zone from North Carolina, through much of Tennessee, northern Arkansas to the panhandle of Texas and Oklahoma. In the western states, Kentucky bluegrass is grown with irrigation.
