QUESTION: How much should I plant for a new lawn?

ANSWER: For a nice thick lawn 10 pounds per 1000 square feet of Perennial Ryegrass or Perennial Ryegrass Mixture

QUESTION: What types of fertilizer should I use and when should I use them?
ANSWER: Click Link for fertilizer chart -- This chart is to be used only as a guide. For proper timing of any fertilizer application read the label. For additonal assistance with reguard to timing, rates or setting a turf fertilization program geared specifically for your site, consult your local nursery store.

QUESTION: When do I mow my new yard for the first time?
ANSWER: This will vary upon which type of turf grass you have. The most common is Perennial Ryegrass and it can be mowed at 3 inches down to 2 inches.

QUESTION: How much should I water my new yard?
ANSWER: This will depend on the temperature. You want to make sure your seed never dries out, but do not let the water make puddles in your yard.

QUESTION: What guidelines should I follow to maintain my yard year around?
ANSWER:
1. Annual overseeding to maintain a thick heathly lawn (recommend 3 to 5 pounds per 1000 square feet for Perennial Ryegrass and Perennial Ryegrass mixes)
2. Start a fertilization program to meet you lawns needs (see fertilization table above).
3. Lime yearly
4. Mow at 1 1/2 to 2 inches for established lawns(do not mow off more than 3 inches at a time to avoid causing brown tips)
5. Make sure to use the proper grass for your area.
6. Weed Control program - as needed. Call local nursery for recommendations.
7. Annual aeration and Bi-annual thatching.

QUESTION: Several bags of lawn care products got wet in the bag. Are they still good?
ANSWER: This depends on what type of products and how much moisture they absorbed.

Lawn Seed: If you use your seed right away it will be fine.
Fertilizer: If you can break it up to go through a spreader it will be ok. Large clumps can damage your grass so if you can't spread it, don't use it.
Weed & Feed and Crabgrass Preventer: These will loose there effectiveness soon after they get wet. If it was wet when you purchased it call your retailer.

QUESTION: Is it ok to lime and fertilize at the same time?
ANSWER: yes and no, you may lime and fertilize in the same day, however it is not recommended that you mix the products and spread at the same time. Do not apply more than 50 pounds per 1000 square feet of lime when doing this.

QUESTION: Where do I set my spreader?
ANSWER: This depends on what you are spreading;
Lawn seed, fertilizer products, lime, etc will all spread at differant settings. Fertilizer bags will often have the settings for the most common types of spreaders if it is not listed try calling 800-874-8892 (pursell) hotline number they should be able to help you.

QUESTION: After I fertilized my lawn did not green up, Why?

ANSWER: There are 3 main causes for this are:

Didn't use enough fertilizer, may need to double check how much area you have, make sure your spreader isn't clogged keeping it from spreading properly, and double check your spreader setting.
Fertilizer did not get adequate water to soak into the grass roots, may need to use a sprinkler if there has been little rain (less than one inch from fertilizer application time).
